He holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering: Reactions and Catalysis from Lorraine University, France, and previously worked as a researcher at the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS), where he contributed to hydrodynamic and micro structured reactor simulation projects. His research integrates photocatalysis, nanofluid thermal systems, pollutant degradation, and industrial water treatment in mining regions, alongside advanced materials engineering, including geopolymers, sustainable concrete, and composite materials for mining infrastructure. He also works on friction welding technologies to improve mining equipment reliability and structural integrity, as well as mass transfer and chemical reaction modeling in closed systems and microreactors to optimize industrial processes. Scholar Overview Dr. Aymen Bourezgui is an Assistant Professor of Physics at the Mining Research Center, Northern Border University, Saudi Arabia. He received his Ph.D. in Physics in 2016 from the Faculty of Sciences of Tunis, University of Tunis El Manar, Tunisia. His expertise spans mineral characterization, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy coupled with energy dispersive spectroscopy (SEM/EDS), materials physics, nanomaterials and thin films, photocatalysis, and advanced materials characterization. He also works on mineral processing, sustainable mining technologies, artificial intelligence for materials analysis, and environmental applications of functional materials. His research focuses on the structural, microstructural, and mineralogical characterization of natural and engineered materials. Prior to joining Northern Border University, he served for nearly five years as Technical Manager of the XRD and SEM facilities at the National School of Advanced Sciences and Technologies of Borj Cedria, Carthage University, Tunisia. His responsibilities included instrument management, researcher training, analytical support, and collaboration in multidisciplinary research projects. Dr. Bourezgui has more than sixteen years of experience in higher education and scientific research. Her current research focuses on mining, geotechnics/geomechanics, environmental concerns, and the valorization and sustainable management of mine waste rock, with growing interest in applying artificial intelligence and machine learning approaches to these domains. Her expertise includes the multidisciplinary characterization of phosphate waste rock; covering physical, chemical, mineralogical, and environmental dimensions. Her doctoral work centered on the upstream geomineralurgical characterization of a sedimentary phosphate deposit for sustainable waste management and valorization. Her research emphasizes water recovery from mining residues, recycling of mining effluents, circular economy approaches, and sustainable mine waste management, integrating experimental investigations with physicochemical and mineralogical analyses, geotechnical characterization, flotation testing, and environmental impact assessment. She also works on the evaluation and recovery potential of rare earth elements (REEs) and P₂O₅ from phosphate residues, particularly in North African phosphate basins. Dr. Ettoumi completed postdoctoral research under a cotutelle framework between the University of Tunis El Manar and the University of Quebec in Abitibi-Temiscamingue (Canada), followed by a second postdoctoral fellowship at Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), Morocco, within the Geology and Sustainable Mining Institute, in collaboration with major industrial partners including the Gafsa Phosphate Company (CPG, Tunisia) and the Moroccan Phosphate Office (OCP, Morocco), where she contributed to advanced solutions for phosphate sludge densification, REE and P₂O₅ recovery, and sustainable tailings management for industrial applications.
